24 critical violations in this week's Restaurant Report.
We start at a favorite city hangout, whose owner says a few problems found during their last inspection have been corrected.
From the sizzling fajitas to the margaritas, Bandito's Burrito Lounge has been attracting fans for years...
"Our food here's very fresh, and it's very good," says owner Sean McClain.
But he adds that it's actually the people behind the scenes who have made his restaurant such a success.
"They care about the place, most people that work here have that family atmosphere," says McClain.
That's why the staff was especially upset by a January 17th inspection during which an inspector found five critical violations.
McClain says, "It's more like upkeep, tune ups from time to time...everybody knows the rules."
Among the tune-ups: Bar staff have been reminded not to handle lemons and limes without gloves. Before it hits the grill, chicken is now properly stored below ready to eat foods and hot water has been restored to the rest rooms.
"We fixed it that day," McClain says.
He adds that he hopes his customers realize how important food safety is to them.
"It's a clean atmosphere and i hope people don't forget that. No one's perfect, we just strive for it, we really do," he says.
Also on the critical list, the Crazy Greek on Staples Mill road with five critical violations.
Among them, raw fish stored above lasagna.
In Henrico, Ruby Tuesday on Brook Road with four critical violations, including potentially hazardous foods held at improper temperatures.
Sheraton Richmond West on Broad Street also makes the list with six critical violations.
An inspector found 2-month old buttermilk in a refrigerator.
And finally, in Petersburg, China Wok on South Sycamore with four critical violations, including food employees' hands and arms observed soiled.
And this week's Hall Of Fame winner is Five Guys Burgers and Fries on Centralia Road in Chesterfield for a perfect inspection January 16th!
